‘Half of RON95 users drive luxury cars’

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) proposed the government create a mechanism to ensure RON95 petrol is not constantly sold to luxury car owners.
Its director Fauzan Mohd Nor claimed the government’s aim to provide subsidised fuel to targeted consumers has failed as the subsidy was being used by those with means to pay more for fuel.
A survey conducted at a petrol station in Jalan Bangsar here by JMM showed 55 per cent of the buyers of RON95 were those with luxury cars.
“This is a significant number and the government’s initiative to provide subsidised fuel has not reached the targeted group,” said Fauzan.
He said it was important to implement controlled petrol distribution to ensure Malaysia does not suffer losses when it comes to petrol subsidies, adding it was unfair to those from the lower income group.
